I was in the woods last weekend. My father-in-law invited to archery hunt with him on the most beautiful piece of property I could ever remember being able to
walk through.
The hills were breathtakingly colored with reds, yellows and greens as the fall harvest time began in the little town of Canisteo, NY. The smell of wood burning stoves and fireplaces permeated the morning air and there was a slight brush of Jack Frost when the wind reached it’s top gust.
We walked up the side of the hill to the spots we would spend the morning waiting and dreaming of that monster buck to walk by offering himself up for harvest. As we made our way up the hill, stopping every 20-30 paces to take a break as it was fairly steep, deer bounced through the woods all around us. This was the indicator we were hoping for. The rut is on.
Normally, this time of the morning would not offer such excitement during the off season, or even right before harvest season starts. The constant movement told us it was the rut and to my surprise, I was lucky enough to witness an attempt at reproduction by a small young buck with a willing doe.
Nature lovers and hunters alike, love to witness scenes such as this. I consider myself privileged having been at the right place at the right time.
Cheers!

Nature is great, but in my mind, nothing compares to being able to fill the frying pan. How that happens is usually a great adventure that I’m sure I share with many a deer hunter.
Great Blog By The Way!
